MCN News

India completed a sensational victory over Bangladesh in the second Test of the series at Green Park, Kanpur on Tuesday, October 1.

Team India did something unthinkable in the second Test against Bangladesh at the Green Park stadium in Kanpur. Despite 2 days of washout, and only 35 overs bowled in the 1st  day, India managed to secure a 7 wicket victory against the neighbours and completed a clean sweep in the 2-match series. India were already at the pole position in the World Test Championship table and the outcome will help them solidify their grip at the No. 1 spot. The proceedings began with Jasprit Bumrah and  Jadeja combining to scalp three wickets each an effort which helped India fold Bangladesh’s second innings fold at 146. This left India with a 95-run target, which they completed with no difficulties. Although Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill fell cheaply, promising opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed a half-century before getting out. Jaiswal’s effort drove India home as Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli completed the formalities. Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin gave India a perfect start on Day 5. The spinner removed previous innings centurion Mominul Haque for 2(8). Jadeja then chipped in with a wicket in his very first delivery and cleaned up Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto for 19(37).  Akash Deep then removed opener Shadman Islam for 50(101), who was caught by Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. Jadeja picked his second by removing Litton Das for 1(8), following which Shakib Al Hasan was caught and bowled by the spinner on 0. Bumrah joined the act and got Mehidy Hasan Miraz caught-behind on 9(17). The pacer then trapped Taijul Islam for 0. He then cleaned up Mushfiqur Rahim on 37(63), who up to some extent staged a lone battle for Bangladesh. Day 4 saw India fold the opposition for 233, who kicked-off the proceedings from 107/3. In response, India made their intentions clear from the word go and slammed the fastest 50, 100, 150, and 200 in Test cricket, before Rohit Sharma eventually declared the innings at 285/9. Bangladesh resumed action on final day from the overnight score of 26/2 and were trailing by 26 runs.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a quick half-century to help India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets and whitewash the visitors at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Tuesday. Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets each in the third innings to reduce Bangladesh to 146 runs.

Day 4 was a day of records when Indian batters went in blitzkrieg mode and scored 285/9 wickets before declaring their first innings after skittling out Bangladesh for just 235. The Indian batters would then go hell for leather at the Bangla bowlers scoring the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in Test history in order to get to 285. With Bangladesh already losing 2 wickets at Stumps on Day 4.

India won the first Test by 280 runs earlier in the month in Chennai. Bangladesh though had their moments in the first Test could not go on to capitalise the moments to get the result in their favour.
