Afghanistan will Host India for 3-Match T20I Series in Delhi

MCN News

The Afghanistan Cricket Board and the Board of Control for Cricket in India have confirmed that Afghanistan will host India for a three-match T20I series in Delhi from September 13 to 17, 2026. All three matches will be played at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium in Delhi. The series will begin on September 13, followed by the second T20I on September 15 and the third on September 17. The series is part of Afghanistan’s Future Tours Programme and will be staged in India, which has hosted Afghanistan’s home fixtures in recent years. BCCI President Mithun Manhas said the board remains committed to supporting the growth of cricket in Afghanistan and providing its players with opportunities to compete against high-quality opposition.

“Bilateral cricket is an important part of this, as it allows teams to play regularly against quality opposition and gain valuable experience. We welcome the Afghanistan Cricket Board to India for this series and look forward to working closely with them to make it a successful one,” Manhas said.

BCCI Honorary Secretary Devajit Saikia also highlighted the strong cricketing relationship between the two nations. He noted that India and Afghanistan have produced several exciting contests over the years and that Afghanistan’s players have developed a strong following among Indian fans.

Saikia added that the upcoming T20I series would complete the teams’ recent bilateral engagements across all three formats. India had previously hosted Afghanistan for their historic first Test in 2018, while the two sides have continued to meet regularly since then. DDCA President Rohan Jaitley welcomed both teams to the Arun Jaitley Stadium and expressed confidence that the series would provide Delhi fans with an opportunity to witness some exciting international cricket.

The series marks another significant step in the growing cricketing ties between India and Afghanistan. Afghanistan most recently toured India for a three-match ODI series in June 2026, while the two teams also contested a three-match T20I series in January 2024.

ACB Chairman Mirwais Ashraf described the series as an important milestone for Afghanistan cricket and the relationship between the ACB and BCCI. He said the board highly valued India’s cooperation and support and believed that staging such an important series in India would create opportunities in commercial, technical and cricketing areas. Afghanistan has hosted its home fixtures in both India and the UAE in recent years.
