Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia is set to host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 Asia Sub-Regional Qualifiers A and B from October 5 to 14, with 13 teams competing for six places in the next stage of the qualification pathway. A total of 36 matches will be played across three venues — Bayuemas Oval, UKM Oval and STC Oval — as teams begin their campaign for a place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028. Sub-Regional Qualifier A features Bahrain, Bhutan, Kuwait, Mongolia, Myanmar, Qatar and Thailand, while Hong Kong, China, China, Malaysia, Maldives, Saudi Arabia and Singapore will compete in Qualifier B. Both competitions will follow a single round-robin format. The top three teams from each group will advance to the next stage of the Asia qualification pathway in 2027, with six qualification spots available at the regional final.
Malaysian Cricket Association President Mahinda Vallipuram welcomed the participating teams and officials to Malaysia.
“On behalf of the Malaysian Cricket Association, it is my pleasure to welcome the players, officials, team management and supporters to Malaysia for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Asia Qualifiers A and B,” Vallipuram said.
He added that Malaysia was honoured to host the events and described the qualifiers as an important opportunity to showcase the development and talent of cricket across Asia.
