Continuous Rain Conditions in Kanpur Forces Relocation of UP T20 League 2026 Playoffs and Final to Ekana Stadium, Lucknow

KANPUR, August 31, 2026: In view of continuous heavy rainfall and unfavorable weather conditions in Kanpur, the UP T20 League Governing Council has announced the relocation of the upcoming playoff matches and the Grand Finale of Season 4 from Kanpur to Lucknow. The crucial knockout matches will now be played at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow, on their previously scheduled dates.

The venue change was officially announced by Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Chairman of the UP T20 League Governing Council, during a press conference held at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on Monday. Addressing the media, Dr. Kapoor said that the safety and well-being of players, quality playing conditions, and the integrity of the competition remain the league’s foremost priorities. “Due to the continuous rain in Kanpur, it has become nearly impossible to complete full matches, which directly impacts the game and the players’ ability to showcase their talent. In crucial and decisive encounters like the playoffs, it is essential that all participating teams get a fair and equal opportunity to play a complete 20-over match,” Dr. Kapoor said. He explained that the decision was taken after carefully reviewing the prevailing conditions and weather forecasts, which indicate continued rainfall in Kanpur over the coming days. Dr. Kapoor stressed that the decision was made solely in the interest of fairness, player welfare, and the quality of cricket, and was not intended to benefit or disadvantage any particular team. “This decision was not made in favor of or against any particular team, but strictly to uphold the fairness of the sport and the welfare of the players. A wet outfield due to persistent rain significantly increases the risk of injuries,” he said.

He further highlighted the physical and mental strain caused by repeated weather interruptions and matches extending late into the night following delays. “We also considered the physical and mental fatigue players face due to frequent weather interruptions and shortened matches finishing late into the night. We firmly believe that teams reaching the playoffs deserve the best possible conditions to perform to their full potential,” Dr. Kapoor added. The league management said the move to Lucknow is aimed at providing teams with better playing conditions and ensuring that fans can enjoy uninterrupted, high-quality cricket. The venue is expected to offer the participating teams an ideal platform to execute their strategies over a full 20-over contest.

The UP T20 League Governing Council also expressed its sincere gratitude to the fans, players, participating teams, match officials, and all supporting organizations for their continued support throughout the Kanpur leg of the tournament.
