The press conference was attended by Dr. Sanjay Kapoor, Chairman of the UP T20 League Governing Council, and Sanjeev Kumar Singh, Member of the Governing Council. They were joined by Lucknow Falcons captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Meerut Mavericks skipper Rinku Singh, Lucknow batting coach Umang Sharma, and Meerut head coach Utkarsh Chandra. Reflecting on the success of the fourth season, Dr. Sanjay Kapoor ji said the league had successfully realized the vision of BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla. “This journey started in Lucknow, moved to Kanpur, and has now returned to Lucknow for the ultimate clash,” Dr. Kapoor said. “We could not have asked for a better final. You have two incredible captains and stalwarts of the game facing off.”

He highlighted the importance of having established players such as Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rinku Singh share the dressing room with emerging cricketers from Uttar Pradesh. “The young players learn so much just by sharing the dressing room and playing alongside them. This league provides the perfect platform for the youth of Uttar Pradesh to outshine on a grand stage,” he added. Dr. Kapoor ji also praised the efforts of the ground staff, who successfully battled exceptionally heavy rainfall throughout the season.

“In the last 30 to 40 years, we haven’t seen this kind of rainfall. Despite that, we had zero washouts in Ekana and only two abandoned games in Kanpur across 33 matches so far. The groundsmen have worked tirelessly,” he said. He also thanked Rajeev Shukla for his contribution to the league’s growth, while revealing that the tournament’s digital and social media reach has increased significantly.

“Our digital and social media numbers are five times higher than last season,” Dr. Kapoor revealed. With the league continuing to expand its footprint across Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Kapoor indicated that Varanasi could potentially become a new venue in Season 5. “It is very possible. As the league reaches Tier-B and Tier-C towns, it will only grow bigger. We even conducted trials this year to ensure maximum outreach,” he said. With rain continuing to pose a challenge, Dr. Kapoor also confirmed that an additional Reserve Day has been allocated for the Grand Finale as a precaution.

The final will see two teams with contrasting histories in the competition. While the Meerut Mavericks are appearing in their fourth consecutive final, the Lucknow Falcons have reached the title clash for the first time. Bhuvneshwar Kumar admitted there was some nervousness within the Lucknow camp but said excitement was the dominant emotion following their victory in Qualifier 1. “Since winning Qualifier 1, everyone in the camp is very happy. There are some nerves because it is the franchise’s first final, but there is mostly excitement,” the Lucknow skipper said.

The experienced pacer emphasized the importance of helping the younger members of the squad embrace the occasion rather than becoming overwhelmed by it. “I have experience playing in finals, but we have young players who haven’t played at this massive level yet. My message to them is to simply enjoy the opportunity because these moments don’t come around often. Under pressure, they shouldn’t forget why they started playing this game,” he said. Asked whether playing the final in Lucknow would give the Falcons a home advantage, Bhuvneshwar offered a simple response: “Uttar Pradesh is everyone’s home.”

He also praised the UPCA Speed Hunt initiative for identifying and developing emerging fast-bowling talent, pointing out that players from the programme have already made their mark in the league, including Krishn Kumar Saroj in the Lucknow squad. For Meerut Mavericks, captain Rinku Singh provided a positive update on his hand injury and assured that he is feeling better and fully committed to the final. “The boys are doing exceptionally well.
