Mumbai :
A dominant performance at the Wankhede Stadium saw the Punjab Kings (PBKS) dismantle the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets, a result that simultaneously knocked RCB off the top of the points table.
Despite a brilliant comeback century from Quinton de Kock, who anchored MI’s total of 195/6 alongside a solid contribution from Naman Dhir (sharing a 122-run stand), the home side couldn’t find a breakthrough when it mattered most.
The Turning Point
The match was defined by a record-breaking response from the PBKS top order:
-
The Partnership: Prabhsimran Singh and Shreyas Iyer delivered a masterclass, yielding a 139-run partnership for the third wicket.
-
The Chase: Their aggression allowed PBKS to cruise past the target with 21 balls to spare, turning a steep chase into a comfortable victory.
While the win cements Punjab’s surge in the standings, it leaves Mumbai reeling. Even De Kock’s milestone innings couldn’t stop the rot for MI, who have now slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat.

In a high-octane encounter that showcased batting brilliance from both sides, Punjab Kings (PBKS) maintained their dominant form by chasing down a formidable 196-run target against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium. While Quinton de Kock’s magnificent unbeaten century (112* off 60) had initially rescued the home side from a difficult start, a clinical 139-run stand between Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer ensured the Kings sailed to a seven-wicket victory with 21 balls to spare.
Opting to field first, PBKS made early inroads as Arshdeep Singh produced a double-strike in the third over, removing both Ryan Rickelton (2) and the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck. He also got his 100th IPL wicket in the process.
Promoted up the order, Naman Dhir provided aggressive support with a resolute 50 off 31 balls. The duo stitched together a 122-run partnership that shifted the momentum entirely. De Kock was particularly relentless, smashing 8 boundaries and 7 towering sixes to reach his third IPL century.

The subsequent batters were unable to apply enough pressure and keep up with the momentum provided by De Kock and Dhir. However, MI captain Hardik Pandya was undone by an absolutely stunning catch by his opposite number Shreyas Iyer in what was one of the best grabs so far this season.
Despite a flurry of wickets in the slog overs – including a three-wicket haul for Arshdeep – de Kock’s unbeaten 112(60) propelled MI to a competitive 195/6.
Chasing 196, PBKS signaled their intent from the first over, with their in-form openers Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya plundering 21 runs off Deepak Chahar. Although Allah Ghazanfar briefly pegged back the visitors by dismissing Arya (15) and Cooper Connolly (17) in quick succession, the momentum stayed firmly with PBKS who ended the powerplay at 61/2.
What followed was a masterclass in calculated aggression. Prabhsimran played the role of the primary aggressor, smashing an unbeaten 80 off just 39 deliveries. He found the perfect partner in skipper Shreyas Iyer, who registered a fluent 66 off 35 balls. The pair combined for a match-winning 139-run partnership, dismantling the MI bowling attack and taking the attack consistently to the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya, and Shardul Thakur.
Brief scores: Mumbai Indians 195/6 in 20 overs (Quinton de Kock 112* off 60, Naman Dhir 50 off 31; Arshdeep Singh 3-22) lost to Punjab Kings 198/3 in 16.3 overs (Prabhsimran Singh 80* off 39, Shreyas Iyer 66 off 35; Allah Ghazanfar 2-31) by 7 wickets
