Lucknow : Chennai Super Kings have faced yet another setback due to injury, as English all-rounder Jamie Overton has returned home after suffering a right thigh injury. This news was confirmed by the franchise through their social media platforms on Wednesday (May 13), just before their match against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow at Ekana.

The franchise announced that Overton will be heading back to the UK for “further assessment and management” and has not officially ruled him out for the remainder of IPL 2026.
In CSK’s latest match against LSG at home, Overton was awarded the Player of the Match title, having taken three wickets after the visitors had raced to 91/1 during the Powerplay. His contributions were crucial in helping the Super Kings limit LSG to 203, which they successfully chased down in the final over.
This season, Overton has participated in 10 matches, claiming 14 wickets at an average of 17.78 and an economy rate of 8.89, in addition to scoring 136 runs at a strike rate of 158.13.
Despite CSK managing to turn their campaign around after three consecutive losses at the beginning, their season has been plagued by injuries. The five-time champions have signed Karnataka’s Macneil Noronha as a replacement for Ramakrishna Ghosh.

With no direct all-rounder available in the squad as a backup, CSK may need to adjust their overseas lineup, possibly including Australian fast bowler Spencer Johnson in their plans. Furthermore, their key player MS Dhoni has yet to participate in a match and did not travel to Lucknow with the rest of the CSK team for their fixture on May 15.
Currently, CSK is positioned fifth on the points table, holding 12 points from 11 matches and maintaining control over their playoff prospects.
