Lucknow Falcons End Kanpur Superstars’ Campaign With 13-Run DLS Victory in UPT20 League

MCN News

KANPUR, Match NO. 28 : Lucknow Falcons ended their league-stage campaign on a winning note, defeating the Kanpur Superstars by 13 runs via the DLS method in Match 28 of the UP T20 League 2026 Season 4.  Played at the iconic Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, a venue that has hosted 40 international matches, the result ended Kanpur Superstars’ hopes of reaching the playoffs. The victory also confirmed second place for Lucknow Falcons on the points table, with six wins from 10 matches and 13 points.

With their place in Qualifier 1 against Meerut Mavericks already secured, Lucknow rested regular captain Bhuvneshwar Kumar and lead pacer Abhinandan Singh, handing the captaincy to all-rounder Vipraj Nigam. Kanpur Superstars captain Adarsh Singh won the toss and elected to bowl in the crucial do-or-die encounter. Lucknow got off to a brisk start, scoring 11 runs in the opening over before a heavy downpour forced a 30-minute interruption. Play resumed without any reduction in overs, and Lucknow’s opening pair of Yashu Pradhan and Himanshu Singh immediately took charge. The duo added a commanding 72 runs from just 43 balls, with Pradhan scoring 40 off 27 deliveries and Himanshu contributing 43 off 33.

Kanpur fought back strongly in the middle overs, triggering a sudden collapse that saw Lucknow slip from 72/0 to 96/4. However, Priyam Garg and stand-in skipper Vipraj Nigam launched a crucial late assault. Garg remained unbeaten on 32 off 21 balls, while Nigam smashed an unbeaten 18 off just eight deliveries to lift the Falcons to 160/5 in 20 overs. Needing 161 for victory and with their playoff hopes hanging by a thread, Kanpur struggled to establish momentum during the chase. Lucknow’s bowlers kept the pressure on, reducing the Superstars to 47/4 in 6.3 overs, including the important wicket of star Impact Player Sameer Rizvi.

Satyam Sangu and Yashovardhan Singh attempted to steady the innings, putting together an unbeaten 22-run partnership. However, rain once again interrupted proceedings at the end of the 10th over, with Kanpur at 68/4. The DLS par score for the stage was 81, leaving Kanpur 13 runs short. With persistent showers making any further play impossible, the match was eventually called off, handing Lucknow Falcons a 13-run victory via the DLS method. Navneet Kumar was the pick of the Lucknow bowlers, returning impressive figures of 2/8 in two overs. UPCA Speed Hunt discovery Krishn Kumar Saroj and captain Vipraj Nigam claimed one wicket apiece.

The defeat officially ended Kanpur Superstars’ campaign in the UP T20 League 2026, while the Lucknow Falcons now turn their attention to the playoffs, which will be played in Lucknow.
