Lucknow Shernies, Nawabi Queen, REPL Challengers And Falcons Reach Semi-Finals; Mostly Matches Washed Out Due To Heavy Persistent Rain

Lucknow: The semi-final lineup for the Lucknow Women’s Premier League has been finalized after heavy rain washed out all three matches scheduled for Saturday at the SAGE Ground, located at the Gomti Riverfront.

Lucknow Shernies, SAGE Falcons, REPL Lucknow Challengers and Lucknow Nawabi Queen have secured places in the semi-finals for this first season. Persistent rain and a waterlogged playing surface meant that none of Saturday’s matches could be played as previous mostly matches. As per the league’s rain-related rules, each team was awarded one point. Organizers noted that while rain is certainly a hindrance in cricket, the league operates following the rain-related regulations established by the ICC and BCCI.

With the third match also abandoned, the umpires finalized the league standings. REPL Lucknow Challengers, Lucknow Shernies and SAGE Falcons finished among the top three with three points each, while Lucknow Nawabi Queen also secured three points to take the fourth spot.

Semi-Final Lineup……

The first semi-final will see Lucknow Shernies take on Lucknow Nawabi Queen, while SAGE Falcons will face REPL Lucknow Challengers in the second semi-final.

The K.D. Singh Babu Stadium was declared unfit for play following the heavy rain. The organizing committee has therefore decided to conduct both the semi-finals and the final at the SAGE Ground where all league matches have been conducted.

League Organizers said that although rain remains an unavoidable challenge in cricket, the league is being conducted in accordance with the applicable rain-related regulations and playing conditions.

Three Matches Abandoned

Saturday’s schedule featured three matches. The first was Rahimabad Royals vs Four Square Warriors, followed by REPL Lucknow Challengers vs Lucknow Nawabi Queen. The evening match was scheduled between SAGE Falcons and Lucknow Shernies.

However, continuous heavy rainfall prevented the ground from becoming playable, forcing all three matches to be abandoned.
