India have added spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar to their squad for the second and third Test against New Zealand in Pune and Mumbai respectively. The Tamil Nadu cricketer has played four Tests for India – all in 2021, including the iconic victory at the Gabba in Brisbane, which was his debut in the format.
India squad for 2nd and 3rd Test:Rohit Sharma (C), Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (WK), Dhruv Jurel (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Akash Deep, Washington Sundar.

BCCI’s announcement to add Sundar comes a day after he scored an incredible 152 against Delhi while batting at No.3 in the Ranji Trophy fixture in the national capital. He will join up with the India squad ahead of the second Test in Pune, starting from October 24.
With Sundar in, India will have a five-man spin arsenal with the others being R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. Sundar’s all-round abilities offer batting cushion, should they need it, considering India suffered the ignominy of being bowled out for 46 in the first innings of a rare home defeat in the series opener against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
